Southern Maryland boasts a thousand miles of shoreline and over ten thousand years of history. The Southern Maryland region is steeped in in educational and recreational opportunities, from museums and historic sites to walking trails and picturesque beaches. This region is where “Time and Tide Meet!”

The Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium (SMHAC) raises awareness of the heritage areas and tourism sites in the region.  The public name for SMHAC is Destination Southern Maryland, and this organization helps to define what makes the Southern Maryland region unique.  SMHAC partners with the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, as well as with the tourism divisions of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties.
