Our workforce board gives voice to the businesses and individuals calling our communities home. The workforce division of the Tri-County Council, the Southern Maryland Workforce Development Board, relies on the needs of local businesses to shape its agendas. Over 50% of the board is made up of local businesses, ensuring that critical workforce concerns remain center stage.
With local concerns informing our priorities, the Workforce Development Board guides Southern Maryland’s workforce development programs appropriately. The board strives to prepare a dynamic workforce (inclusive of youth and individuals with barriers to employment) to bolster growth and self-sufficiency.
The Workforce Development Board is structured according to the Federal Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act. In partnership with the Chief Local Elected Official, the board establishes and oversees the workforce system in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties.
As part of its focus on regional workforce needs, the Workforce Development Board offers business and employee development services through the Southern Maryland JobSource, which are detailed on our Business Services and Job Seekers Services pages.
