Regional Transportation Programs

Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties value the efficient and safe transportation of its growing population. The Tri-County Council advocates for regional transit priorities that support citizens, businesses and environmental responsibility.

Southern Maryland Regional Transportation Coordination Program (RTCP) coordinates efforts between the transit systems of Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties. The program facilitates discussions on transportation needs with state and local providers.

The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland also works closely with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) on several projects. TCCSMD is designated as the regional coordinating body for reviewing local grant applications before they are submitted to the MTA, and endorsing only those applications that are derived from the current regional Coordinated Transportation Plan.

TCCSMD also works with MTA’s Commuter Bus service. MTA operates over 30 bus lines running to Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis. Fourteen routes run between Southern Maryland and Washington, D.C. Our transportation staff works with the MTA by assisting commuters, monitoring and promoting the Commuter Bus services. MTA Bus schedules, routes and park and ride lots, visit the Maryland Department of Transportation website.

The MTA serves over 110 million riders annually.
