HUGHESVILLE, Md. – The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSMD) held its 9th Annual Southern Maryland Hiring Event & Apprenticeship Fair virtually on September 23, 2020. The event was safely and successfully executed through Premier Virtual, a platform for hosting events and career fairs.
“This was the first year we hosted the Southern Maryland Hiring Event & Apprenticeship Fair virtually and we’re proud of its smooth execution,” says Ruthy Davis, TCCSMD Director of Regional Workforce and Business Development. “We’re looking forward to announcing the actual number of hires once we follow up with each company.”
The Southern Maryland Hiring Event & Apprenticeship Fair was organized by Southern Maryland JobSource, TCCSMD’s workforce division, and funded by a grant from the Rural Maryland Council. Public and private sector organizations attended the event to conduct interviews and hire for immediate openings.
64 hiring businesses were in attendance and 952 job seekers registered for the event. Through the event, a total of 1511 applications were submitted to the 340 available job postings. According to a report conducted by Premier Virtual, most candidates heard about the hiring event through advertisements on social media platforms.
Out of the 952 registered job seekers, 46% identified as Charles County residents. The remaining 54% included residents from St. Mary’s County, Calvert County, and surrounding counties. The event proved to be a successful opportunity to recruit exceptional local talent and network with other businesses.
“Considering the unprecedented circumstances we have encountered this year, we’re pleased to be able to continue to serve the Southern Maryland business community and jobseekers,” says John Hartline, Executive Director of TCCSMD.
The event was sponsored by Calvert Health, Chaney Enterprises, College of Southern Maryland, The Gott Company, Island Creek Associates, PSI Pax, Precise Systems, Republic Services, Sagepoint Senior Living Services, Skanska-Corman-McLean, SMECO, TMG Logistics, and Zenetex.
