TCCSMD kicks off industry partnership with local players

Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSMD) hosted local cybersecurity and software development businesses on May 20, 2019, for the Industry Sector Partnership.

This is the first in a series of meetings during which businesses are invited to discuss regional development. The ultimate goal of this partnership is to grow the areas of cybersecurity and software development business workforce because it is a need of the region.

The Industry Sector Partnership, held at the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland Campus, was attended by 12 business partners and nearly 24 resource partners. This meeting was hosted by TCCSMD’s business services team, and the conversation was facilitated by Tammy Ditzel of Inesse Consulting.

The following businesses are participating in the sector partnership:

  • Booz Allen Hamilton
  • Coherent Technical Services (CTS)
  • Disk Enterprise Solutions Inc. (DESI)
  • MAG Aerospace
  • Naval Systems Inc. (NSI)
  • Precise Systems
  • PSI Pax
  • Rollout Systems LLC
  • Smartronix
  • Virescit Tactical Systems (VTS)
  • Zekiah Technologies Inc.
  • Sabre Systems Inc.
  • Sierra Management & Technologies Inc.
  • Cogito Innovations
  • Eagle Systems Inc.

This was the first in a series of four meetings to be scheduled over the next year. An important part of the conversation is how to use career pathways for businesses in order to attract and retain a local workforce. The goal is to develop these pathways to share with various age groups, education and experience levels, and to assist them with entering the cybersecurity and software development industry.

Another important discussion that happens during these meetings is identifying training programs these businesses need for their employees.

During the May 20 meeting, each business candidly shared the struggles they have experienced finding and keeping talented employees. Partnerships such as these ensure that TCCSMD is finding ways to benefit our key regional industries.

The next meeting will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the College of Southern Maryland. Regional cybersecurity and software development businesses in this industry are invited to attend and add to the conversation.
