The Council’s Regional Infrastructure Advisory Committee (RIAC) identifies key transportation priorities and coordinates funding requests with local and state officials. With a lens on infrastructure, the RIAC evaluates the transportation needs of Southern Maryland to accommodate the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Indian Head NSWC, businesses and citizens.
Each year, the Maryland Depart of Transportation updates its six-year capital budget for transportation projects called the Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP). In April, Maryland local governments are asked to submit their priority projects to the state for inclusion. RIAC facilitates this process by developing a regional transportation priority letter that is approved by the Executive Board. RIAC also works with MDOT, the State Highway Administration (SHA), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) and other state agencies cooperatively on regional infrastructure issues. This is a critical function in assisting elected officials for action at the county, state and federal levels.
RIAC meetings meet on a quarterly basis on the second Thursday of the month and are open to the public. Meeting notices will be posted here.
